Lynn became the sixth team to fail to score at 1st Cloud Arena this season but the result could have been very different had they taken their chances in the opening 10 minutes.

On seven minutes Ben Stephens beat the offside trap to go one-on-one with Shields keeper Myles Boney but shot wide and, two minutes later, Lynn were awarded a penalty after a Michael Woods foul on Cameron Hargreaves. Boney guessed correctly diving to his right to keep out Josh Barrett’s spot kick who then smashed the rebound against the keepers legs.

The home side grew into the match. Woods had a shot blocked following a 15th minute corner and ten minutes later Kian Ronan did well to block a Mackenzie Heaney shot.

Shields were dominating possession and chances and on 38 minutes Paul Blackett crashed an effort against the frame of the goal and then Robert Briggs’ 20-yard strike forced Lynn keeper Paul Jones into a great save.
The final effort of the half fell to Lynn but
Barrett's attempt on goal thwarted by Gary Liddle.

Jones was Lynn's saviour after the restart making several good saves but was beaten in the 64th minute when Luke James threaded a pass to Paul Blackett, who finished clinically.

Barrett was the only Lynn player to have muster chances for Lynn but made sure of the points the home side killed off the game with a minute remaining when quick thinking from Briggs saw him play a free-kick down the left channel for Jordy Mongoy to score,
