THE Linnets remain in the relegation mire after missing a golden opportunity to move out of the bottom four on Tuesday night.
Striker Jamie Clarke could have had a hat-trick while home keeper Colin Matthews showed why he had earlier received the Supporters Player of the Year award with a string of fine stops..
After the match Linnets coach Peter Morris said: "At this stage of the season, I would settle for us playing badly and getting all three points, but we just don't know how to score a goal."
The Linnets looking dangerous on the break from the start and a great cross by Adie Hayes was glanced wide by Clarke.
Midway through the half, Hayes' dipping 25 yard effort beat Matthews but just cleared the bar.
Newport were restricted to a couple of opportunities prior to the interval, before Clarke had two great scoring chances after the restart.
He first of all fired wide when under pressure from the giant Matthews and then failed to control a Hayes cross when unmarked from four yards out.
Lynn kept up the pressure and Paul Raynor sent Hayes down the left, whose cross was tipped away by Matthews to Clarke, who hit the post.
Newport were again saved by the woodwork in the 66th minute following a blistering drive by Hayes.
McNamara, who had replaced the injured Paul Watts, was then denied by a brilliant block from Matthews.
Newport pushed forward but failed to penetrate the excellent Glen Fuff and Craig Clark at the back.
The Islanders frustration boiled over in the final minute when the volatile Green was red-carded after grabbing McNamara by the throat.
It needed a last-ditch tackle by Fuff to deny Dave Wakefield in stoppage time to leave both sides with a nerve-jangling 90 minutes on Saturday.
