Season 1957-58 Season 1958-59
At the Annual General Meeting of the Football Club in June manager Jack Selkirk defended the decision not retain 39 goal leading scorer Terry Ryder saying "
There are a lot of sides to football and while it is important, it is hardly fair that a man who taps the ball into the net
should get all the praise and publicity . . . I noticed one man did more work than any other on the field. He did not score: I retained him: he is George Heagren.
"I am trying to get players who try for the whole 90 minutes, not five minutes."
Looking forward to the coming season he said, "I am sure that at the end of he season, Lynn will be among the leaders of the Midland League."
The price of Season tickets were: Centre Stand £3 3s, Wings £2 10s, North Stand £2 5s, Enclosure £1 17s
New players included Bernard Streten, who spent nine seasons with Luton Town making 276 appearances, making one appearance for England in November 1949 in the 9-2 win against Ireland.
Jim Pemberton, another signing from Luton where he had spent ten years.
Harold Mosby a right winger from Crewe Alexandra and James Woodward, an inside forward who, although on Tottenham's books, had recently been playing for Dartford
George Luke, a 24 year old signing from Scunthorpe, Reg Foulkes formerly of Norwich City player and Wisbech Town player-manager, Steve Neilson a half back who had played nine games for Rotherham in the previous season.
Verdi Godwin, a striker from Tranmere who had previously been with Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers, did not see out the season. Asking to be released in February because of domestic reasons returning home to Stockport.
The club's aim was to reach the new Division Four within five years. The amenities of the ground were being improved with canteen and terracing in front of it, the Seven Sisters end terracing with children's enclosure.
A special floor was to be laid in the gym beneath the South Stand. The club were still considering floodlights but were putting the comfort of their supporters first.
The club felt that the only excuse for Lynn not being accepted into the Football League was the average gates which had not been very large in the past two seasons.
A petition was sent by some fans to the Supporters' Club secretary calling for a general meeting which would consider a number of points about the running of the club,
the Supporters' Club and the West Norfolk Benevolent Club.
Points for discussion included the position of the manager Jack Selkirk and how many players he had been responsible for signing and why Mr L L Hall, the chairman of the football and supporters' club, had been seeking players.
There was also a question relating to whether players had been promised jobs outside of football if they came to Lynn but on arrival the jobs had not been found for them.
Finally there were questions about whether Lynn's professional players were properly trained and 100 per cent fit.
Jack Selkirk answered that all players were signed by himself and he had been allowed to act without interference from the chairman or committee. Mr Hall, as the most available of committee members
had acted as witness in relation to the negotiations and signing of players. With regard to players and jobs, the club could line up interviews but it was up to the players to get the jobs and in some cases the players had declined a job offered to them.
The players were described as being as fit as training could make them.
Three petitioners met 28 members from Football Club and Supporters' Club Committees in December.
The were questions about the role of Mr Len Hall who was chairman of both the football club and supporter's clubs and whether this was in the best interests of the club.
There was a request for the return of "Blaze Away" as the club's "walk out" music.
It was noted that one time A team player, 19 year old Graham Reed, was playing for Sunderland first team having, many thought, not been given a chance with Lynn's reserve and first teams.
February 1958 saw the creation of the Lynn FC Social Club. The club was to be based in the canteen under the stand and in the adjacent new canteen both being licensed and available for members
during permitted hours on weekdays and permitted hours on match days. Mr Hall, Lynn FC Chairman, and social club secretary, said the new club would give the opportunity for people to get together "with players and officials socially, and discussing football matters on an informal level,
and possibly to mutual benefit".
The following month saw a meeting of the Midland League clubs following the decision of seven of the league clubs with reserves teams in the league to join the proposed new North Central League while two others were seeking to join the London Combination.
Nothing was decided and the matter was more complicated as the Southern League was expanding but even there not all was going to plan.
Some teams were prevented from joining because they had not given sufficient notice to their current leagues while former members Llanelly were not allowed to rejoin by the Welsh FA.
Lynn were having a moderate season but local rivals Wisbech were fairing better and had removed Lynn from the FA Cup and gone on to reach the second round proper of the competition.
A meeting of King's Lynn FC members held on April 26 resulted in a decision for the club to opt to join the Southern League. The 150 or so members present voted overwhelmingly for the club to switch to the Southern League with only two votes against.
Mr Hall explained that the current costs of running the club was over £300 a week and that an average gate of 5,000 was required for the club to be self-supporting - the average league gate for 1957-58 was nearer 3,600.
Lynn ended their stay in the Midland League with a 7-3 win over Goole finishing in seventh place with Wisbech Town in second.
The club were fined £100 by the Midland League for failing to resign in accordance with league rules.
Silverware was won in the shape of the Norfolk Senior Cup, defeating Norwich City Reserves in the final, and the Culey Cup - defeating Boston United over two legs with an 8-1 aggregate.
