KING'S Lynn Town maintained the pressure on league leaders St Neots - but at a cost after wing- wizard Jamie Thurlbourne was sent-off in the second half. Thurlbourne was dismissed midway through the second period after picking up two cautions, although it appeared that his first yellow card was branded for a foul his brother Luke committed.
Joint manager Gary Setchell followed the left-winger from the pitch after questioning some of the referee's decisions.
By that time Town were already 3-1 to the good after coming from behind on an awful surface in Northamptonshire.
Setchell said: "Although it appeared to be a case of mistaken identity with Jamie we won't be taking the matter any further.
"We're disappointed, as is Jamie, who knows he shouldn't have gone in for the tackle the way he did when already on a yellow card.
"I thought the referee was very poor all game and sometimes I think common sense should prevail.
"All I asked him is why did he send Jamie off, but not their lad for blatantly handling the ball on the goal-line earlier in the game and he asked me to leave the pitch as well."
Rothvell took a shock lead in the 18th minute when goalkeeper Alex Street found himself un-sighted at a Johnson free-kick and the ball flew into his net. A heavy hailstorm made conditions worse as Town struggled to find a way back in the match. But they eventually levelled matters through a Jack Defty penalty in the 36th minute after Johnson had clearly handled a Jamie Thurlbourne cross in the area.
Two minutes later Town took the lead when Defty powered home a delightful header from another Thurlbourne centre. Just before the break a Keiran Doherty cross from the right evaded everyone before hitting the far post and finding its way into the net.
Lynn's fourth arrived eight minutes from full-time when Luke Thurlbourne played in Steve Spriggs to slot home. Substitute Robbie Harris marked his 100th appearance by climbing off the bench to net Town's fifth and final goal in the 88th minute, while youngster Ryan Fryatt also made his first- team debut.
