Lynn 2 Nuneaton 1

AFTER a 55 minute delay following an internal argument by the Linnets, the crowd were rewarded for their patience with three bursts of brilliance that resulted in goals at The Walks on Saturday.
The crowd, who were not let in until 3.30pm, witnessed a match that was whipped up into a frenzy, Martyn Twigger and the lively figure of John Symonds tearing past the home defence like hot knives through butter.
On the half-hour Mark Symonds battled his way into the penalty area, the ball was cleared as far as Paul Carty who sent in a pin-point cross for Twigger to hammer home with venom past the bewildered keeper Lewis.
Borough suffered a severe blow when the nippy and industrious Ian Cottrill and Lynn captain, Ged Creane, collided, Cottrill forced off with aright leg injury to be replaced by out-of-favour Tony Simpson.
On the stroke of half-time and against the run of play Lynn's Tim Callaby tried his luck from the halfway circle, his fiercely-struck shot giving Attwood his first real test but the keeper fumbled it into the back of net. The second-half saw limited scoring opportunities, Lewis equal to everything directed at him and at the other end Attwood was again underworked. Linnets scored a shock second in the 67th minute when a spectacular 20 yard drive from Shaughan Frohawk finished up in the roof of the net.

The hosts went perilously close to adding a third goal when swashbuckling assistant manager, Jackie Gallagher, blasted the ball past keeper Attwood only to be denied by the underside of the crossbar, in true 1966 style the crowd questioned the decision of the referee as to whether the ball crossed the line or not.
From the home bench it was not clear cut and in the end did not matter, the Linnets grabbing three points to continue their revival.
Fatigue forced the momentum down in the final minutes but it proved an anxious few moments for Lynn as the trio of Symonds, Twigger and Simpson pressed forward but to no avail.
The key question now is who will turn up to watch basically the reserve team tackle Bridgnorth Town on Saturday.
